Repeating 2 words

  • TALKING and LISTENING with your child lets them know that you are really interested in what they are doing or what they have to say.
  • Use everyday opportunities to talk with and listen to your child as they share things that are of interest or importance to them. Show your child you are interested in what they are saying when they are speaking by giving nods, smiles, sounds, supportive words and gestures.
  • Repeating phrases back to your child if they use the wrong grammar or incorrect vocabulary is a gentle way of correcting them without being negative. Encourage your child to copy you, make it fun by saying things like, big pigs have curly tails, the baby jumps, I like bananas, the monkey ate a blue grape.
  • Reducing and setting limits for screen time e.g. tablets and phones allows you to spend quality time talking with your child and improving their skills without them knowing!
