International Artists

Leonardo Da Vinci

Leonardo was known as a 'polymath' - someone who has wide knowledge about lots of different subjects. He loved to draw and used it as a way to learn about the way things worked. He drew birds to understand flight. He drew and drew. He walked around animals, looking at them from different angles.

Why don't you have a go at drawing or painting?

Picasso

Pablo Picasso is one of the most famous artists of the twentieth-century. Why? Because he was brilliant at drawing. People really loved his doodles. He  used lots of different colours and objects are in his pictures.

Even as a child he was better at drawing than many adults. He could draw and paint just about anything, and in any style. He liked to experiment and try out new ideas, which is important if you are an artist, because the world is always changing. Picasso helped us see the world in new ways

Frida Kahlo

Frida Kahlo was a Mexican artist best known for her self-portraits. Her paintings are strongly influenced by Mexican folk culture and use lots of bright colours and patterns. Why don't you have a go at drawing your own self portrait? You may choose to draw yourself in the traditional costume of your country or whatever clothes you are wearing today.... you may use one colour or lots of colours. Why not submit your work for our gallery?

Matisse

Matisse loved to paint and make collages using bright colours He  arranged complementary colours alongside each other to create a vibrant effect.  As he got older, and his eyesight became poorer, he used a scissors instead of a paint brush and cut out shapes instead of painting. Matisse is famous for his paintings, collages and sculptures.
